NorthStar Memorial Group (www.nsmg.com) is seeking a Cemetery Caretaker Superintendent for our Skylawn (www.skylawnmemorialpark.com) location in San Mateo, California.

The Cemetery Caretaker Superintendent is responsible for the overall physical appearance and condition of all property to which he/she is assigned. The ideal candidate will understand and make decisions with the end goal in mind: that we are all here to work together to create a seamless ceremony to celebrate a life lived. The ideal candidate will also be bilingual, have strong experience with unions, and an in-depth knowledge of irrigation. This position reports directly to the General Manager.

Things you need to know/be able to do in order to succeed:

1. Able to fill any role required in the grounds keeping/facilities maintenance function.
2. Ensure that all interment verification procedures (IVP) are taught, learned, inspected and adhered to.
3. Verifies that the locations of all interments, entombments or inurnments are accurate.
4. Works with the General Manager regarding disciplinary action and terminations for grounds staff.
5. In consultation with General Manager, Office Manager, Funeral staff, Sales Manager and others, schedules and delegates work assignments to meet client family wishes.
6. Ensure that all members of the caretaker team observe Federal (OSHA), state and local safety requirements for themselves and visitors to the cemetery.
7. Maintains a safe working environment by training the staff in proper techniques and use of safety equipment.
8. Strong experience with unions.
9. In-depth knowledge of irrigation.
10. Pesticide License (strongly preferred).

Basic Traits and Skills needed to be effective:

1. Bilingual (strongly preferred).
2. Strong leadership skills.
3. Ability to communicate effectively.
