Cypress Lawn Memorial Park held its Chung Yeung Festival of Remembrance, a Chinese festival for the dead, October 4-5, 2003. Buddhist monks performed special ceremonies in a large tent where the service was performed. A Chinese calligrapher wrote the names of loved ones on yellow ribbons for a remembrance wall. The monks blessed the names during a chanting ceremony, and afterward the ribbons were burned along with paper money and clothes at the ceremonial site. After the ceremony, food was served as part of the tradition.
