Lakeland Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens has a staff member who uses memorabilia from the deceased to create a personalized cremation urn. A mosaic artist and funeral director intern crafts an urn with sentimental objects from the life of a loved one, using a sheet copper urn as the base. The various items provided by the family are mosaiced on the urn and grouted in a light color. Lakeland is currently offering the mosaic urns in designs for men, women, veterans and nature lovers.
The KIP judges had the following to say about this entry:
- This is a creative way to offer a personalized product - very special for the family and gives them a real level of involvement in their loved one's final resting place. Also, an urn that will be looked at closely with fond memories over the years. Because the work is done by a staff member, this is a very unique service from this business and a good way to distinguish from the competition. Not something they could get anywhere else.
- For those who would have urns, this is very creative and allows a lot of individual expression.
