Lakeland Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens provided a light picnic for Veterans Day visitors to the cemetery. Funeral home and cemetery staff cooked and served hot dogs, drinks and apple pie, while mingling with those in attendance. Approximately 325 people enjoyed Lakeland's hospitality, allowing guests to meet their staff as well as pay tribute to our veterans.
The KIP judges had the following to say about this entry:
- Nice way to reach out to the general public - after all, how often do they come to the funeral home/memorial gardens for a picnic? The tie-in with Veteran's Day makes sense and it's a good way to build community awareness for the business as well as goodwill.
- A simple, yet moving, annual tribute to important members of the community.
- This would be much appreciated by the cemetery visitors on Veteran's Day.
- Nice way to commemorate Veteran's Day.
