Miller-Jones Mortuary & Menifee Valley Memorial Park
Hemet and Sun City, California

Miller-Jones Mortuary & Menifee Valley Memorial Park holds an annual Veteran of The Year program, honoring a veteran for service to other veterans and the community. The Veteran of the Year is chosen by a panel of judges made up of past award recipients and local veterans.

Nearly 200 people attended the event this year to honor Bill Perry at Valley Wide Park, including the mayor, congressional representatives and military and veterans groups. Local ROTC students presented flags, a church group performed the "Star Spangled Banner" and "God Bless the USA," attending dignitaries presented their awards and recognition and Hamilton Jones then presented the Miller-Jones Mortuary Veteran of the Year award.

The KIP judges had the following to say about this entry:

  • Good event to involve community, honor veterans and build goodwill for the business. Interesting twist to honor a veteran who helps other veterans.
  • An example of the kind of personal types of activities engaged in by Miller-Jones. I especially liked that it was fellow veterans selecting the winner. A wonderful, endearing kind of celebration.
  • All in all, a well-done and valuable event.
  • Good idea. Gets community involved; provides community service.
  • Exciting means of reaching target market. Imaginative.
