In spring 2003, Pinelawn Memorial Park held a "Grief Garden" theme remembrance service for all families who had a burial in the cemetery during the past year. Grief and bereavement support group speakers based the service on the symbolism of the grieving process recognized through nature. A babbling brook was created inside the cemetery's chapel where families participated in a candle lighting ceremony to honor loved ones. Refreshments were served and families received a watering can inscribed with the date and filled with potting soil and flower seeds as a memento.
