Honorable Mention
White Haven Memorial Park
Pittsford, New York
White Haven Memorial Park held its "America Standing Guard" dedication for a new monument in their veterans section. Dedicated to "all who risk their lives to keep us safe and free," it honors military, law enforcement and fire and rescue personnel. The ceremony involved speakers from each honored group and a parade of vehicles and color guards. Approximately 250 people attended the dedication and at least 100 more participated in the event.
The KIP judges had the following to say about this entry:
- Very thoughtful idea and looks to be a well organized and executed event. Honors both the living and those who have given their lives in these services, which extends the audience interested in the memorial, and therefore, it's marketing impact.
- Fits in well with the rest of the other community service activities on the grounds, i.e., sunrise services, etc., and seems an appropriate place for such a memorial.
- The staff really worked to put in extra effort to reach the groups being recognized by the memorial and involve them in the ceremony. It was made to be about the honorees, not the monument, and that's why it worked. Excellent communication with participants throughout the process.
- Very thorough entry and it looks like a well-planned event.
- Very well done.
